The New York University baseball team won its third straight game in a 6-3 victory over Colby College on Friday, March 20, in Auburndale, FL.
The Violets were led by
Dominic Holton, who batted 2-for-4 with four RBI.
In the top of the first inning, NYU had runners on second and third base with two outs, after which Holton singled to center field to bring both
Harrison Blueweiss and
CJ Franchini home.
The Mules got one run back in the bottom of the frame, but the Violets scored three more in the fifth inning.
After loading the bases with two outs, a walk followed by a two-run Holton single put NYU up 5-1.
In Colby's half of the inning, the Mules loaded the bases themselves and brought in a run on a walk. With just one out recorded,
Ansel Balmer took the ball in relief and retired two straight batters to get out of the jam.
The two teams then traded one run each in the seventh before going scoreless for the final three frames.
Balmer picked up his second win of the season with one earned run and five strikeouts in 2.2 innings of work.
Tyler Tedeschi registered the save with two shutouts innings and five strikeouts.
The Violets will end their Florida trip tomorrow with a doubleheader against Purchase College at 12:00pm and 3:00pm.
