The New York University baseball team (3-4) defeated Elmhurst University (5-7) 13-3 on Thursday, March 19, at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, FL.
After an early 2-0 deficit, the Violets responded with 11 runs over the next three innings to make them winners of two straight.
Evan Robson came home in the bottom of the second for NYU's first run and was followed by
Kosta Mocklis, who knocked in two Violets to give NYU the lead.
CJ Franchini continued the rally with an RBI single as the Violets scored four in the bottom of the second inning.
Holding a 4-2 lead in the fourth, the Violets scored seven runs to put the game out of reach. The explosion was highlighted by
Mason Clark's double with the bases loaded to clear the bases. Five different Violets had an RBI during the inning.
NYU's pitching, which allowed a season-low two runs last outing, continued its success, holding the Blue Jays to just seven hits on the day. Freshman
Niket Barot was on the mound through six and had three strikeouts to match his career high.
Elmhurst capped off their scoring on an NYU error in the sixth, but the Violets scored another two runs in the seventh to enforce a second straight run-rule win.
Notable Stats:
- Harrison Blueweiss extended his RBI streak to five games
- Matt Dahl came into the game with the third highest batting average in the UAA & went 3-for-4 on the day
- Barot picked up his first career collegiate win
- The Violets have now scored double-digits in three of their last four games
- 10 Violets recorded a hit today (five of them had multiple hits)
