Softball Closes Out Margie Knight Classic

Violets Fall to Manhattanville and Randolph-Macon

The New York University softball team closed out the Margie Knight Classic, hosted by Salisbury University, with matchups against Manhattanville University and Randolph-Macon College on Sunday, March 15, in Salisbury, MD.

The Violets opened the day with an 6-4 loss to the Valiants before dropping an 11-1 contest to the Yellow Jackets.

After NYU fell behind 1-0 in its game against Manhattanville, Victoria Katilius evened the score with an RBI single.

The Valiants took the lead again in the top of the third, 2-1, before Emma Sung doubled in the bottom of the inning and then came home to score following a pair of errors in the field by Manhattanville.

In the top of the fifth, the Valiants scored four runs and did not relinquish their advantage.

The Violets did bring two more runs across the plate and had the go-ahead run on base in the bottom of the seventh, but could not take advantage, as they fell two runs short of a comeback.

The second game of the day saw Randolph-Macon jump out to a 9-0 lead after two innings.

Siena Kiefer brought home the lone run of the game for NYU with an RBI single in the top of the third, as the Violets fell 11-1 in five innings.

Katilius finished the day batting 2-for-5 with two RBI.

NYU will now travel to Florida to take part in THE Spring Games, starting on Wednesday, March 18, against Rowan University in Bartow, FL.
