Softball Sweeps Home Opening Doubleheader

Violets Defeat St. Joseph's Brooklyn 10-2, 12-0

The New York University softball team opened its 2026 home slate with a sweep of St. Joseph's University Brooklyn on Tuesday, March 10, at Bohoshy Field in the Bronx, NY.

The Violets evened their season record at 3-3 with 10-2 and 12-0 victories over the Bears (0-2).

NYU took a 2-0 lead in the opener following an RBI double from Carly Nelson in the first inning and a home run by Emma Sung in the second.

The Bears tied it with two runs in the top of the fifth, but a seven-run bottom of the fifth put NYU comfortably ahead. Sung's two-run single was the big hit, while Alyssa Quary had two hits and an RBI in the frame.

The game ended after the Violets scored their 10th run in the bottom of the sixth.

Siena Kiefer had three hits, a stolen base and scored a run. Emily Barbire was on base three times, hitting a double and drawing a pair of walks.

Monique Kamrowski got the victory in relief, throwing two scoreless, hit-less innings.

It was much of the same in the nitecap, as one big inning determined the outcome.

After a scoreless 2-1/2 innings, the Violets broke out with 10 runs in the bottom of the third. A total of 15 batters came to the plate, aided by four Bear errors. Sung had two hits, four RBIs and a stolen base in the frame.

Nicole Cicchetti added two hits and two RBIs in the contest.

Jessie Werthman went the distance, allowing five hits and striking out six in recording the shutout.

The Violets return to the diamond this weekend when they compete in the Margie Knight Classic at Salisbury University in Salisbury, MD.
