Women's Basketball Winning Streak at 84

Violets Defeat Emory University on Sunday

The top-ranked New York University women's basketball team stretched its winning streak to 84 games with its 78-60 victory over #23 Emory University on Sunday, February 15, in Atlanta, GA.

The University Athletic Association (UAA) match-up was tight throughout the first half.

The Violets led by only three, 32-29, late in the second quarter, but scored the next four points to take a 36-29 halftime advantage.

Emory pulled within 46-43 with three minutes left in the third quarter, but NYU countered with an 11-0 run and led by double-digits the rest of the way.

The Violets increased their lead to as many as 21 points in the final quarter.

Zahra Alexander scored a career-high 24 points for NYU, connecting on 8-of 14 from the field, and Caroline Peper added 17 points.

Yasmene Clark contributed a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Brooke Batchelor finished with a near-double-double of nine points and 10 rebounds.

With the victory, NYU has clinched at least a tie for the UAA Championship, and can win it outright in their next game.

The Violets return to action this Friday, February 20, when they host Washington University in St. Louis at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan. Tip-off is set for 7:30pm.
