Men's Basketball Falls Short in UAA Contest

Violets Defeated by Case Western Reserve 85-81

In a game that was not decided until the final seconds, the New York University men's basketball team, currently ranked #22 in the nation, fell to Case Western Reserve University 87-83 on Friday, January 30, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.

Darren Rubin's layup with 2.8 seconds left brought the Violets within 85-83 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) contest.

But, the Spatans' Ethan Edwards then connected on a pair of free throws to thwart the NYU comeback.

The Violets trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half and were still behind 71-63 midway through the second.

NYU pulled within one point on three occasions down the stretch, but were not able to take a lead.

The Violets went into halftime ahead 51-47, their biggest lead of the contest.

Rubin finished with a team-high 20 points, with Carnegie Johnson (19), Luke Kolaja (18) and Alex Daniels (10) also scoring in double figures.

The Spartans, who connected on 53.8 percent (14-of-26) of their three-pointers, were led by Edwards' game-high 29 points.

Andrew Waldman led the Violets with game-highs of eight rebounds and eight assists, while Kolaja also grabbed eight rebounds.

The Violets return to the court this Sunday, February 1, when they host Carnegie Mellon University in another UAA match-up. Tip-off is set for 2pm.
