Softball Shutout Against WashU

Violets Drop Series Opener to Bears

The New York University softball team played its first home University Athletic Association (UAA) game of the season, facing Washington University in St. Louis on Friday, April 4, at Bahoshy Field in Bronx, NY.

The Violets were held scoreless in a 3-0 loss.

The Bears got on the board in the top of the first inning, as a sacrifice fly with a runner on third base allowed a run to come home.

Neither team managed to score in the following three innings before WashU brought home a pair of insurance runs in the top of the fifth.

NYU began to rally in the bottom of the sixth, however, as a base hit followed by a pair of walks loaded the bases with two outs. The Violets were unable to convert, though, leaving the inning without a run.

Karleigh Kluever tossed an efficient five innings and allowed just one earned run.

The Violets will close out their series against the Bears tomorrow, with a doubleheader beginning at 3pm at Bahoshy Field.
