Softball Closes Series Against Emory

Violets Drop Twinbill to Eagles

The New York University softball team ended its series against Emory University on Saturday, April 26, in Atlanta, GA. The Violets were shutout in game one 4-0 before falling 9-1 in game two.

NYU was no-hit in the day's opening contest, but trailed just 1-0 through the first five innings. Karleigh Kluever drew a one-out walk in the top of the sixth to represent the tying run and was pinch ran for by Olivia de Hesselle. However, after de Hesselle was caught stealing at second base, Sienna Kiefer grounded out to end the frame.

In the bottom of the inning, the Eagles tallied three more runs to extend their lead to 4-0. The Violets were retired in order in the top of the seventh to end the game.

Game two saw NYU load the bases with one out in the top of the first prior to a wild pitch, which allowed Emily Barbire to score. Two batters later, a double play ended the frame.

After the Eagles tied the score in the bottom of the second, they exploded for seven more runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 8-1. In the following inning, another run came across for Emory to end the game by run rule.

In her three plate appearances across the doubleheader, Kluever registered a pair of walks.

The Violets will now return home for their final University Athletic Association (UAA) series of the season, set to face off against the University of Chicago beginning Friday, May 2, at Bahoshy Field in Bronx, NY. Friday's game will begin at 4pm.
