The New York University softball team dropped a 9-1 decision to host Case Western Reserve University on Friday, April 11, in Cleveland, OH.
In the opener of the three-game series against its University Athletic Association )UAA) opponent, the Violets opened the scoring in the top of the first when
Alyssa Quary's single drove in
Siena Kiefer with the game's first run.
However, it was a short-lived lead for NYU, as t
he #15-ranked Spartans tied in up in the bottom of the frame and went ahead with two more in the second inning.
The hosts went on to score another run in the third and four more in the fourth to put the game out of reach.
The Spartans' final run in the bottom of the fifth ended the contest.
Kiefer reached base three times in the game on two walks and a single.
Olyvia Rutter started and took the loss for NYU in her 2-1/3 innings, though only one of the four runs she allowed was earned.
The two teams complete the series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12:00pm.
