Baseball Completes Series Sweep of Dean College

Violets Use Late Surge in Game One, Dominate Game Two

The New York University baseball team wrapped up its four-game series against Dean College with a doubleheader sweep on Sunday, March 9, at the Staten Island University Hospital Community Park in Staten Island, NY. The Violets won the day's first game 10-6 before dominating the second game 17-2, securing their fourth straight victory.

The Bulldogs jumped ahead early with a four-run first inning in game one. However, the Violets responded in the bottom of the second. Max Oliveira launched a two-run homer to center field, scoring Connor Roggero and cutting the deficit to 4-2. Later in the inning, CJ Franchini scored on a passed ball, bringing NYU to within one.

Dean added a run in the fifth to extend its lead to 5-3, but NYU answered immediately in the bottom half. Cam Dunn singled up the middle, bringing home Nick Argenziano to make it 5-4. Later in the inning, Nate Pallotta doubled to left field, driving in Dunn and tying the game at 5-5.

The Bulldogs briefly regained the lead in the sixth, but NYU stormed back in the eighth with a five-run rally. Harrison Blueweiss singled through the left side, scoring Oliveira to tie the game. Dunn followed with a two-run double, driving in Blueweiss and Aidan Howladar, giving the Violets their first lead of the game. Pallotta capped the rally with a towering two-run homer to center, pushing the lead to 10-6.

Cooper Paule (1-0) picked up his first win of the season, while NYU's bullpen held Dean scoreless over the final three innings to secure the victory.

In the second game, the Violets' offense wasted no time, scoring three runs in the first inning. Argenziano doubled to left to bring in Blueweiss for the first run, followed by an RBI single from Cam Dunn and an RBI double from Roggero to put NYU ahead 3-0.

After adding a run in the second, the Violets exploded for seven runs in the third. CJ Franchini, Jack Kelman, and Blueweiss each recorded RBI hits, while Dunn doubled to drive in two more. Errors allowed additional runs to score, giving NYU a commanding 11-1 lead.

Dean plated its first run in the third on a passed ball and added another in the fourth on an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 11-2.

The Violets continued to add on in the later innings. Argenziano hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth, Kelman delivered an RBI single in the sixth, and Luke Haluska added another sacrifice fly. The scoring wrapped up in the eighth when Bruno Damiani singled to bring home Sam Moseman, sealing the 17-2 victory.

Joseph Argenziano (1-0) earned the win, allowing just two runs, while NYU's pitching staff combined to hold Dean to four hits.

With the series sweep, the Violets improved to 6-4 on the season. They will return to action next weekend with a doubleheader against The City College of New York on Saturday, March 15, at the Staten Island University Hospital Community Park. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
