Violets Defeat Averett, Fall to Christopher Newport

The New York University softball team continued its 2025 season at the Triangle Collegiate Softball Classic hosted by William Peace University on Saturday, March 8, in Raleigh, NC.

NYU started the day with its first win of the season vs Averett University 3-2, the first victory for first-year Head Coach Nicole Bellini.

The second game wasn't as successful, as the Violets were no-hit by Kate Alger and fell to seventh-ranked Christopher Newport University 4-0.

In the first game, The Violets' fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, and Averett added a second run off of a double in the second inning to make it 2-0.

In the bottom of the second, The Violets' tied the game at 2-2 with back-to-back two out singles by Emma Aridi and Olivia De Hesselle

De Hesselle added another RBI single in the fourth inning to make it 3-2, closing out the scoring.

Alyssa Quary helped the offense along with two hits, as a total of seven different players recorded a hit.

Karleugh Kluever pitched a solid game, going six strong innings, only allowing the two earned runs. Jessie Werthman came in to close the game out in the seventh inning. She struck out two in the inning and got the save for NYU.

In the nightcap, Nicole Cicchetti was NYU's only base runner, getting on twice via walks.
