The New York University softball team played a doubleheader at Farmingdale State College on Wednesday, March 26, in Farmingdale, NY.
The Violets were shutout in the first game 8-0, but roared back for a 15-8 victory in the second contest.
In the opener, the Violets fell behind early, allowing two runs in both the bottom of the first and second innings.
Farmingdale added two runs in the fourth and single runs in the fifth and sixth to close out the affair.
NYU only managed three hits, including a double by
Emily Barbire.
Jessie Wethman pitched a complete game for the Violets.
NYU's offense came to life in the second game, bursting out of the gate with five runs in the top of the first - all with two outs - and going on to record their highest run total of the season.
Despite the early advantage, however, the Violets found themselves trailing 7-6 after five innings.
But, NYU's offense came back to life in the top of the sixth with a six-run outbreak.
Olivia de Hesselle's two-run triple and
Victoria Negron's two-RBI single were the big hits of the frame.
After the Rams scored once more in the bottom of the frame, the Violets' added to their lead with three unearned runs in the seventh.
Marina Egbert pitched up the victory for NYU with three innings of relief.
Alyssa Quary had three of NYU's 16 hits and scored a pair of runs. Barbire, Negron, de Hesselle, and
Naya Schubel each had two hits, with Negron collecting four RBI's.
The Violets return to action this weekend when they begin University Athletic Association (UAA) play. NYU will travel to Waltham, MA, for a three-game series against host Brandeis University. The teams play a doubleheader beginning at 2:30pm on Friday, followed by a single game at 12:00pm on Saturday.
