The New York University softball team opened University Athletic Association (UAA) competition on Friday, March 28, with a doubleheader against Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.
After a close, 2-0, in game one on Friday, the Violets tied game two in the seventh inning before ultimately dropped game two, 5-4, to the Judges.
Naya Schubel, Claire Carson and Siena Kiefer all logged hits in the UAA opener, but the Violets could not place a run.
Karleigh Kluever allowed just two earned runs in six innings pitched, recording three strikeouts.
The Judges jumped out in game two, taking a 4-0 advantage through three innings.
Carson scored the Violets' first run of the day, recording a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning.
Nicole Cicchetti doubled the run total in the fifth inning with an RBI double.
Cicchetti and Alyssa Quary tied the game for NYU in the top of the seventh inning with back-to-back RBI singles, evening the score at 4-4.
Despite holding Brandeis without a run for three innings, the Judges came up with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on the first home run of the doubleheader.
NYU will close out the series against Brandeis on Saturday, March 29, at 12:00 PM in Waltham, MA.
