The New York University baseball team had an impressive offensive showing, securing a 20-3 win over Purchase College on Monday, March 24, at the Yankee Complex in Tampa, FL.
The Violets were dominant on both sides of the ball, improving their record to 12-5 for the season.
Paul Guerne started the game and pitched two perfect innings, allowing no hits or runs and striking out three batters.
The Violets jumped out early with one run in the second and six more in the third. Matt Oliveira hit a three-run home run in the third, pushing the lead to 7-1.
In the fourth inning, NYU added four more runs. Kosta Mocklis tripled to right field, driving in two runs, followed by a single from Max Oliveira that brought in Mocklis. Dakota Barbet later walked on a wild pitch, which allowed Oliveira to score from third, bringing the score to 11-1.
In the fifth inning, the Violets added one more run, with Oliveira scoring from second base on a wild pitch.
NYU's offensive explosion continued in the sixth inning, with Nick Argenziano driving in two runs on a double. Both Michael Burton Jr. and Aidan Howladar collected RBI singles. Jack Kelman then reached on a fielder's choice, and Howladar scored on a throwing error, pushing the lead to 17-3.
In the seventh, the Violets added three more runs, including an RBI from Burton.
Looking ahead, the Violets will travel to Atlanta, GA, to face Emory University on Friday, March 28, at 3:00pm to begin University Athletic Association (UAA) play.
