The New York University men's volleyball team returned to action on Saturday, March 22 with a 3-1 win over St. John Fisher in Rochester, New York.
The Violets maintained their perfect 5-0 record in United Volleyball Conference play with the win and improved their season record to 21-0.
"Saturday's match was a hard fought win by our young men against a really good and prepared St. John Fisher team," said José Piña. "We were able to slow down their middles from their usual production while having our middles play really well."
NYU never trailed in the opening set after an early 3-0 run gave the Violets a 5-3 lead. The visitors hit for a match-high 45.8% in the first frame.
The NYU attack opened in the second set, elevating to 18 kills - their most in a set during this match.
After trailing by six points to start the third set, the Violets clawed back to take a late lead, 21-20. St John's Sonepith Keoviengsamay scored three of the final six points of the match to give the Cardinals a 25-22 win and force a fourth set.
The Violets trailed again to start the final frame, but powered back to tie the game at 13, behind four kills from Lucas Osiecki. NYU secured the win a 4-0 run to go ahead 21-17 and held on to win 25-22.
Osiecki led the way 19 kills on .394 hitting. Emerson Evans added 15 kills.
Buddy Cohen finished the day with 10 kills.
Setter Devyn Nguyen wrapped the match with 52 assists.
NYU will face UVC foe Nazareth in Rochester on Sunday, March 22 at 1:00 PM.
