The New York University baseball team suffered a tough 11-10 loss to host Montclair State University on Tuesday, March 18, in Montclair, New Jersey.
The Violets' offense exploded over the first four innings, scoring 10 runs.
Nate Pallotta led the way with three hits and three runs, opening the scoring with an RBI single in the first.
Connor Roggero followed with an RBI hit-by-pitch, and
Max Oliveira and
Dakota Barbet each brought in runs with bases-loaded free passes, giving NYU an early 4-0 lead.
After Montclair State tied the game in the bottom of the first, NYU quickly responded. Roggero added an RBI single in the second, while Oliveira drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in another run. In the third,
Kosta Mocklis tripled to bring in two runs before Roggero drove in another with a single, extending the lead to 9-4.
Harrison Blueweiss capped the scoring for NYU with a sacrifice fly in the fourth, putting the Violets up 10-4.
The pitching, however, could not hold the lead, and Montclair State chipped away with a run in the fifth and rallying for six runs in the bottom of the eighth to complete the comeback.A total of nine pitchers saw action for NYU, with
Aidan Dolinsky taking the loss, his first of the season.
The Violets return to action on Saturday, March 22, for a doubleheader against Elmhurst University at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00pm.
