The
#1 New York University men's volleyball team kept its undefeated season intact with a sweep of
#11 Hobart College on Saturday, March 1, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
The Violets, now 17-0 overall and 3-0 in the United Volleyball Conference (UVC), won in straight sets against the Statesmen (17-5, 0-3) by scores of 25-16, 25-19, 25-17.
Prior to the match, five team members were honored on Senior Day:
Luke Boyer,
Buddy Cohen,
Ry Kagan,
Zach Knudsen, and
Lucas Osiecki.
Cohen and Knudsen, the Violets' co-captains, have been impactful leaders for NYU.
"Zach was a leader from the moment he stepped into the gym. Good personality and a great listener setting an example for the guys," said Head Coach José Piña.
"Buddy, also an exceptional leader, is very confident and holds the guys accountable. He works hard and makes no excuses for himself while being receptive to coaches and fellow players," Piña added.
Out of the 17 NYU victories this season, 14 have been in straight sets. The Violets have swept six consecutive matches to date.
Boyer led with 11 kills, and
Emerson Evans followed with 10. Cohen hit an impressive .667, recording four kills.
Bennet Tchaikovsky recorded three aces from off the bench.
Defensively, Evans recorded eight digs and
Devyn Nguyen had seven. Nguyen also had 28 assists.
The Violets return to the court on Wednesday, March 12, when they travel to New Paltz, NY, to play the SUNY New Paltz Hawks. The first serve is set for 7:00pm.
