Playing 11 days after its previous match, the
#1-ranked New York University men's volleyball team returned to the court with a sweep of SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday, March 12, in New Paltz, NY.
The Violets (18-0) remain perfect in the 2025 season having swept their last six opponents.
NYU was tested throughout the first two sets.
The two teams were neck and neck for the first half of the opening set. At 8-8, the Violets established a small lead and were able to maintain it until an ace from the Hawks threatened the set at 24-23. However,
Lucas Osiecki closed the frame with a kill assisted by
Devyn Nguyen as NYU held on for the 25-23 victory.
The Violets fought hard in the second set, stringing together three points to come back from a Hawks' set point at 24-23. Two kills from Osiecki and a combined block from
Buddy Cohen and Nguyen put NYU up two sets.
The Violets took the third set more swiftly, 25-17, defending their undefeated record.
"This was a good win for the team. Playing at New Paltz is never easy, so for the guys to pull this off was an accomplishment in and of itself," said Head Coach Jose Pina.
Emerson Evans led NYU in kills, posting 12 off of a .407 hitting percentage.
Luke Boyer had eight kills.
Nguyen recorded 28 assists and led the team in digs with 12.
Zach Knudsen registered 11 digs and held down serve receive.
Up next, the Violets will match up with #5-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology for the second time this season on Saturday, March 15. In February, the Violets won 3-1, making the Ducks one of three teams to take a set off the dominant NYU squad this season. The match will begin at 4pm in Hoboken, NJ.
