Baseball Falls to Sage College

Early Deficit Too Much to Overcome in 12-4 Loss

The New York University baseball team dropped its 2025 home opener, falling 12-4 to Sage College in Staten Island, NY, on Saturday, March 1.

A rough start put the Violets in an early hole. But, despite a mid-game push, they were unable to mount a comeback and dropped to 2-4 on the season.

The Gators capitalized on the Violets' defensive miscues in the top of the first inning, scoring twice, including an unearned run after an error. A six-run second inning put the Violets down 8-0 as Sage strung together multiple extra-base hits to extend the lead.

NYU got on the board in the bottom of the third when Nick Pallotta singled to center, driving in Nick Argenziano. Kosta Mocklis followed with an RBI infield single, cutting the deficit to 9-2.

Mocklis delivered again in the fifth, tripling to right field to bring home Pallotta and make it 9-3.

In the sixth, Jack Kelman singled to center, scoring Aidan Howladar and trimming the gap to 9-4.

Sage tacked on insurance runs in the eighth and ninth, taking advantage of wild pitches and an RBI double to seal the 12-4 result.

Antonio Turco-Rivas (1-1) took the loss for NYU, while the Violets' bullpen worked to keep the game within reach after the early struggles.

NYU will look to bounce back in a doubleheader against Dean College on Saturday, March 8, at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park. First pitch is set for 12:00pm.
