The New York University men's volleyball team swept Elmira College on Friday, February 28, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
The top-ranked Violets remain undefeated (16-0,2-0) with the 25-11, 25-21, 25-17 victory, while the Soaring Eagles fell to 13-2 overall and 0-2 in the United Volleyball Conference (UVC).
The first set was tied 6-6 when the Violets went on a 7-0 streak to take the lead for good.
Lucas Osiecki accounted for the majority of those points with five consecutive service aces.
NYU fell behind 10-8 in the second set, but went ahead with a 3-run.
Then, with the score tied 11-11, the Violets scored the next three points and never trailed again.
In the final set, NYU was behind 2-1 before scoring the next five points and taking the lead for good.
Osiecki had a monster match for the Violets. He led the way 11 kills on a team-best .350 hitting percentage, while compiling six service aces , six digs,and a block.
Devyn Nguyen registered a match-high 21 assists and
Zach Knudsen led the way with nine digs.
The Violets hit .243 for the match, while holding the Soaring Eagles to a microscopic .024.
"It was a really good win," said Head Coach
Jose Pina. "We served well. We got a lot of points off our serve and were able to put them in trouble at times."
The Violets are right back in action tomorrow when they host #11 Hobart College on Saturday back at the Paulson Center. NYU will be celebrating Senior Day, with first serve set for 2:00pm.
