The
#1 New York University men's volleyball team hosted
#20 Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Saturday, February 22, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
The Violets (15-0) swept the Engineers (9-7) in their first United Volleyball Conference (UVC) match of the season (25-21, 25-19, 25-17).
The Violets controlled the flow of the match from the start, beginning the first set with two blocks from
Ry Kagan. This momentum continued throughout, except for an MIT run in the second set.
Lucas Osiecki and
Emerson Evans both recorded eight kills in the match, while
Luke Boyer had seven. Kagan was strong at the net with six blocks and Boyer had four.
Zach Knudsen recorded seven digs.
There was a strong turnout of men's volleyball alumni at the match.
"The support of our alumni is always great. When they show up, they bring a new energy to the team and make them play harder because they don't want to disappoint their peers," said Head Coach José Piña.
The Violets return to the court to play Elmira College on Friday, February 28, back at the Paulson Center. First serve is set for at 7:00pm.
