The New York University baseball team opened its 2025 season with a doubleheader against host Hendrix College on Saturday, February 23, in Conway, AR.
The Violets split the two games, dropping the opener 12-4 and rallying for an 8-6 win in the nitecap.
Hendrix took control in the opener with three runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth for a quick 7-0 lead.
NYU got on the board in the fifth with a solo home run by
Kosta Mocklis.
The Violets rallied for three more runs in the seventh, including an RBI single from
Harrison Blueweiss and a sacrifice fly by
Dakota Barbet, cutting the deficit to 9-4.
However, the Warriors sealed the win with three more runs in the eighth.
Nick Argenziano recorded a pair of hits in the game, while
CJ Franchini had a hit, an RBI, and walked three times.
Jonathan Hyman started and took the loss in his NYU debut.
The Violets took an early 1-0 lead in the second game when Argenziano homered in the top of the first.
The lead lasted until the Warriors scored a run in the fifth and then went ahead with four more in the sixth.
However, NYU immediately mounted its comeback with five runs in the seventh highlighted by Mocklis' grand slam and then a go-ahead RBI from Argenziano.
The Violets added two more in the eighth inning on RBIs from Argenziano and
Max Oliveira.
Aidan Pawlak pitched well in his Violets' debut, scattering three hits over the first five innings, striking out four and allowing only one run.
Tyler Tedeschi got the win in relief with
Aidan Dolinsky picking up the save.
The Violets are right back in action again tomorrow when they face Dominican University (IL) at 10:00am (central) in Conway.
