On Saturday, February 15, the
#1 New York University men's volleyball team won the Morgan Classic Championship match in Springfield, MA.
The Violets beat their Illinois Wesleyan opponents in straight sets: 25-18, 25-14, 25-23.
To reach the championship, the Violets beat the host school, #6 Springfield College, last night in straight sets. Continuing their undefeated streak, the Violets continue one of the most successful seasons in program history at 13-0.
After dominating the first two sets, the Violets found themselves under pressure in the final set. Following four consecutive kills by the Titans, the set was tied at 18.
After an NYU timeout,
Lucas Osiecki served two aces propelling the Violets to their 13th straight win.
Luke Boyer and
Emerson Evans led NYU with nine kills each.
Devyn Nguyen recorded 27 assists in the match.
Defensively, Boyer, Nguyen, Evans, and
Zach Knudsen each posted four digs. At the net, Boyer and
Ry Kagan recorded two blocks.
NYU had three members named to the Morgan Classic All-Tournament Team: Nguyen, Boyer, and Osiecki. For his outstanding performance, Osiecki was also named MVP of the tournament.
The Violets return to the court on February 19, where they will face St. Joseph's University Long Island in the John A. Paulson Center at 7pm.
