The
#1 New York University men's volleyball team played
#6 Springfield College on Friday, February 14, in Springfield, MA.
The Violets continue to dominate with their fourth victory against a ranked team this season. Two days previously, they beat the
#4 Stevens Ducks for the first time in four years.
Springfield has historically come out on top against NYU, having won 18 of the previous 23 matches between the two schools. Friday's match demonstrated the depth of the Violets' 2025 squad.
NYU won in straight sets 33-31, 25-20, 26-24.
Lucas Osiecki led NYU with 13 kills, and
Luke Boyer followed with nine.
Devyn Nguyen posted an impressive 34 assists, contributing to his #4 ranking in the NCAA for assists.
Defensively,
Ry Kagan and
Buddy Cohen controlled the net with three and two blocks, respectively.
Zach Knudsen held down the back row with nine digs.
"The boys had to dig really deep to win set one and then battle hard in the next two sets," said Head Coach Pina. "Strong hitting by our middles was key to our attack. The defense and serve receive of Knudsen made all the difference in our ability to run the middle and get good transition swings late in the match."
The Violets return to the court on Saturday, February 15, where they will play Illinois Wesleyan at 8:15pm in the Championship Match.
