The
#1 New York University men's volleyball team played the
#4 Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, February 12, at the John A. Paulson Center.
The Violets earned their first win against the Ducks since 2020, winning the match in four sets (25-23, 25-21, 19-25, 25-21).
The Violets and the Ducks both lost in the Final Four of last year's NCAA tournament, making the competition a great match-up.
The two teams played a great level of volleyball remaining neck and neck for the majority of the match. In the end, NYU showcased why they are ranked #1 in the country, closing in four sets.
Emerson Evans had an impressive 19 kills in the match.
Devyn Nguyen, fourth in the nation in assists added another 45 to his stat sheet. Nguyen didn't just confidently lead the offense, he also had four kills and six digs.
Lucas Osiecki had a strong defensive match as well, posting eight digs.
Buddy Cohen and
Ry Kagan were a presence at the net with three blocks a piece.
Bennet Tchaikovsky was integral to the team's success with two aces in crucial spots in the match.
"A gritty win by the young men. It was a good match for our team's physic, and hopefully, it propels us forward as we go through the season," said Head Coach Jose Pina.
The Violets return to the court on Friday, February 14, at 8:15pm in Springfield, MA, for the Morgan Classic.
