The New York University men's basketball team kicked off its West Coast trip with a 78-63 win over California Lutheran University on Wednesday, November 26, in Thousand Oaks, CA.
The Violets jumped out to a 17-6 lead just over seven minutes into the game and never looked back, maintaining a lead for the remainder of the night.
The Kingsmen remained within striking distance for much of the first half, getting the deficit down to as little as six at 25-19.
Following a 5-0 NYU run, California Lutheran hit a three-point shot in the final minute of the half to make it a 30-22 game at the break.
Less than three minutes into the second half, the Violets grew their lead to 12, 36-24. However, the Kingsmen continued to claw back and closed the gap to 42-36 with 13 minutes remaining.
With NYU up 48-42 at the under-10 minute mark, the Violets pulled away with a 12-0 run. Their lead remained in double digits for the rest of the contest as NYU registered the 15-point win.
Carnegie Johnson posted a game-high 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field and 7-of-7 from the free throw line.
Bryan Moussako scored 15 points and knocked down three shots from deep.
The Violets continue their West Coast trip on Saturday against George Fox University, hosted by California Lutheran at 5pm PT.
