Women's Volleyball Faces #24 Wesleyan

Violets Drop a Three-Set Match to Cardinals

The New York University women's volleyball team faced off against #24-ranked Wesleyan University (CT) on Sunday, October 5, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan, NY.

The Sunday matinee ended with the Cardinals defeating the Violets 25-4, 25-17, 25-14.

Wesleyan started out hot with a succinct first set victory.

The Cardinals took another early lead in the second set, jumping ahead 6-1. NYU showed some fight in response, going on a three-point and then four-point run in the middle of the set to make it 20-14. The Violets were unable to complete the comeback and dropped the second set.

The Violets were even with Wesleyan to begin the third set, with the score knotted at 5-5. Wesleyan then took five out of the next six points to secure the lead for the rest of the set. NYU closed the gap to three points several times, with the final time at 16-13. Despite battling, the Violets could not come closer than that, and the Cardinals completed the sweep.

"Wesleyan came in with a plan and they didn't stray from it," said Head Coach Andrew Brown. "We did a good job continuing to pursue the ball and play with grit. We just need to process this and turn the page because we have another tough weekend of conference ahead of us."

Grace Nelson led both the defense and offense with eight digs and five kills. Alden Roberts tallied a team-high 12 assists.

NYU returns to action next Sunday, October 12, when it faces both Brandeis University and Emory University at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #2, hosted by Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.
