In a battle of ranked teams, #24 New York University hosted #18 Carnegie Mellon University in a University Athletic Association (UAA) match-up on Friday, October 24, at Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ.
The Violets netted both of their goals in the second half and defeated the Tartans 2-0.
After the scoreless first half, NYU took the lead on
Hunter Hoelscher's goal in the 51st minute. She was assisted by
Sari Frankl, who passed the ball to the top of the box and Hoelscher lifted it into the top left corner of the net.
Elizabeth Argenziano produced the Violets' other goal, collecting the ball in the middle of the box off of
Rena Kalargiros' corner kick and burying it into the net in the 67th minute.
The shutout remained intact as goalkeeper
Mia Capo recorded a career-high 11 saves en route to her eighth win and fifth shutout this season.
The Tartans out-shot the Violets 17-4.
"We've been focused on trying to get better and play our best game," said Head Coach
Scott Waddell. "It was a very good performance, posting a clean sheet against a very good team."
The Violets are back in action this Sunday for another UAA contest. NYU will host Case Western Reserve University at 1:00pm back at Lubetkin Field.
