On Friday, January 31, the New York University men's volleyball team faced Messiah University (5-1) in Dallas, PA.
Due to a power outage, the match was suspended until the next morning at 10. Before the interruption, each team had captured a set with NYU leading 22-16 in the third.
The next morning the Violets won the match in four sets (25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 25-21).
Given both teams are nationally ranked in the latest
AVCA Coaches Poll, the Violets solidified their second place rank against the #12 Falcons.
Lucas Osiecki posted a match-leading 13 kills while
Buddy Cohen followed with 10, hitting at an impressive .769 clip.
Devyn Nguyen had 42 assists against the Falcons.
Zach Knudsen held down the back row with 13 digs while Osiecki had eight.
"Strong game for the boys. Our outside hitters and libero neutralized Messiah's strong serving with excellent passing," said Head Coach José Piña.
The Violets remain in Pennsylvania where they will play a doubleheader. Their next match is against the host #20 Misericordia University, which begins at 12pm. They finish the road trip against Nichols College, who received 34 votes in the poll, at 2pm.
