Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Defeats Baruch College

#2 Violets Remain Undefeated

On Wednesday, January 29 the #2 New York University men's volleyball team defeated Baruch College (0-5) in straight sets.

The Violets (7-0) remain undefeated in their 2025 season.

In the first set, NYU came out strong. Bennet Tchaikovsky, a freshman, made his debut at the Libero position and was crucial to the Violets success. He had two big digs that helped NYU secure the 25-15 win in the first set.

The second set was similar to the first. Baruch was able to score more points, but had a hard time defending the Violets. Devyn Nguyen did a great job distributing the ball to the office making it difficult for Baruch to read their attacks. NYU closed the second set 25-22.

The third, and final, set saw the Bearcats gain momentum, putting pressure on the NYU squad. In the middle of the set, NYU took a timeout and Head Coach Piña was able to redirect the men to close the final set of the game 25-20.

Emerson Evans posted a game-leading 11 kills, and Lucas Osiecki followed with eight. Nguyen skillfully led the offense with 32 assists and delivered nine digs from the back-row. Tchaikovsky held down serve receive and defense with seven digs. Serving was crucial to the victory, Osiecki posted five aces, and Evans and Ry Kagan each recorded three.

"We continue to hit and set really well. If we can continue performing this way we will be tough to beat. Not unbeatable, but tough to beat," said Piña.

The Violets travel to Pennsylvania this weekend where they will face three nationally ranked teams. On Friday, January 31, they begin their road matches against #12 Messiah University at 8pm.
