The
top-ranked New York University women's basketball team remained unbeaten into the New Year with a 109-40 win over Nazareth University on Thursday, January 2, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
The Violets, are now 10-0 this season and winners of 41 consecutive games, the longest current winning streak in the nation.
The outcome of Thursday's contest was never in doubt as the Violets scored the first 10 points and led 36-6 after the first quarter.
The NYU lead grew to 58-17 at halftime.
The Violets went on to lead 88-28 after the third quarter and went ahead by as many as 72 in the fourth.
"We played 40 minutes on both sides of the ball and didn't play the scoreboard," explained Head Coach
Meg Barber.
Natalie Bruns led NYU with 17 points, connecting on 8-of-11 shots.
Belle Pellecchia finished with 16 points, five assists and seven steals.
Brooke Batchelor totaled 12 points, a game-high seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Zahra Alexander contributed a career-high 12 points as 15 NYU players scored.
"Just a great team win and great to be able to get everyone into the game," Barber added.
Molly Benetti led the Golden Flyers (6-3) with 10 points.
The Violets will play their final non-conference game of the season when they travel to Saratoga Springs, NY, this Saturday, January 4, when they face Skidmore College. Tip-off is set for 2:00pm.
