On Sunday afternoon, the
#2 New York University men's volleyball team extended its winning streak with an exciting five-set match against the North Central College Cardinals.
The sets alternated: the Cardinals took the first 25-23, NYU won the second 25-19, the Cardinals took the third 25-22, and NYU sent the match to a fifth with a 25-19 fourth-set win.
The fifth began neck and neck, two blocks from
Buddy Cohen broke a 3-3 tie and the Violets went on second half with an 8-5 lead.
Ry Kagan's dominant play at the net forced a North Central College timeout at 11-6. The Violets won 15-10 off a service error from the Cardinals.
Emerson Evans and
Luke Boyer led NYU with 20 kills each. Cohen and Boyer were dominant at the net with four blocks apiece.
Devyn Nguyen recorded an impressive 58 assists and
Zach Knudsen held down the back row with 12 digs for the Violets.
"I'm very proud of how the boys played this weekend," said Head Coach Pina. "It was a hard-fought, and well-earned victory for the team to overcome a very strong North Central College squad."
The Violets return to the court at home in the Paulson Center on Thursday January 23 to play Hunter College. The match will begin at 7 pm.
