Devyn Nguyen of New York University's men's volleyball team was named the Division III National Player of the Week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) while baseball's
Andrew Reid picked up his second consecutive University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week - Pitcher award.
Men's volleyball defeated Misericordia University in five sets in its final non-conference game of the season, before a crucial five-set United Volleyball Conference (UVC) win over St. John Fisher University and a UVC sweep of Nazareth University to secure the #2 seed in the league tournament.
Nguyen averaged a whopping 9.83 assists per set along with 1.92 digs per set across the trio of victories, also being named UVC Rookie of the Week.
The freshman delivered 40 assists, five digs and three aces against Misericordia, collected a 52-assist, 13-dig double-double versus St. John Fisher and contributed 26 assists, five digs and four blocks in the Nazareth match.
On the diamond, Reid was dominant on the mound in NYU's 3-1 UAA win over Emory University on Sunday. The senior struck out 10 across 8.2 innings, allowing just one run on five hits and a walk. He gave up just one hit and three baserunners through the first eight innings while holding the Eagles scoreless until the ninth.
Reid was also the UAA Athlete of the Week - Pitcher last week and is now 4-0 on the year with a 3.21 ERA and .225 batting average against.
Men's volleyball begins UVC Tournament play on Saturday, April 13, against either SJFU or Nazareth at 5:00pm on the campus of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. Baseball returns to the diamond tomorrow, April 10, also at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie.
