Violets Fall to Wash U in UAA Home Opener

The New York University softball team was shutout 12-0 by Washington University in St. Louis on Friday, April 5.

NYU's University Athletic Association (UAA) home opener was played at Columbia University in Manhattan.

Things did not go well from the start for the Violets (5-14, 0-5) as the Bears (14-7, 3-2) scored four runs in the top of the first (three unearned).

Wash U's offense remained potent in the second and third innings, when they scored three and two runs, respectively.

Reliever Jayna Kramsky held the Bears without a run in the fourth, but Wash U. tacked on another three off Jessie Werthman in the fifth and final inning.

Emily Stone started for NYU and suffered her second loss (0-2) of the season).

The Violets only managed three hits, provided by Emma Aridi, Margaux Lesser and Madi Hand.

The two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 12 noon on Saturday back at Columbia.
