Baseball Defeated in UAA Home Opener

Violets Beaten by Emory 14-4

The New York University baseball team played its University Athletic Association (UAA) home opener on Friday, April 4, at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park on Staten Island, NY.

The Violets took at early lead, but could not hold it in falling to Emory University 14-4.

The Violets (14-7, 1-4) scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run double by Cam Dunn and an RBI single from Alex VanLandingham. NYU added a run in the next inning on Max Oliveira's inside-the-park home run to take a 4-1 lead.

But, NYU was unable to score again.

Emory (15-12, 2-3) took the lead with four runs in the top of the third and never relinquished it.

Sean Bolin (3-2) started for NYU and went the first four innings. He only allowed three earned runs and struck out two without walking a batter.

Dunn finished with three of NYU's eight hits, while VanLandingham had two.

The two teams meet again on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00pm.
