New York University's softball team fell twice to Brandeis University in a University Athletic Association (UAA) doubleheader on Saturday, April 27, at the College of Staten Island.
Brandeis took the opener 9-0 thanks to an eight-run third inning.
Margaux Lesser (2-for-2) had two of the Violets' three hits in game one with
Nicole Cicchetti providing the third.
Game two was a back-and-forth affair, with NYU taking a 6-1 lead after two innings. The Violets scored three in the bottom of the first via
Lindsey Baron's RBI double, a Brandeis error and
Madi Hand's sac fly.
Three more NYU runs came in the second as
Emma Aridi and
Alexa Very drove in a run each and another came across on a Judges' miscue.
Brandeis tied the game soon after though, scoring two in the third and three in the fourth to make it 6-6 after three-and-a-half. But, the Violets plated two in the bottom of the fourth on another error from the visitors and
Caroline Hofmann's walk with the bases loaded.
The fifth was scoreless, then Brandeis took a 10-8 advantage after a four-run sixth. NYU got within one on Hand's RBI double in the bottom of the sixth, but the Judges scored and insurance run in the seventh and came away with an 11-9 triumph.
Baron had two hits and scored three runs, Hand drove in a pair and
Lizzy Smith scored twice.
The teams conclude their UAA series tomorrow, April 28, at 12:00pm at the College of Staten Island with NYU's Senior Day ceremony taking place before the game.
