New York University's softball team fell 3-2 to Brandeis University in the first game of the teams' University Athletic Association (UAA) series on Friday, April 26, at the College of Staten Island in Staten Island, NY.
It was a low-scoring affair as NYU plated the first runs of the game on Alex Very's two-run single in the bottom of the first.
Those were the only runs of the day until the final inning, however, as NYU starting pitcher
Karleigh Kluever shut down the Judges for the first six frames.
Brandeis fought back in the top of the seventh, scoring all three of its runs with two outs to turn the game on its head.
NYU couldn't come back in the bottom half as the Judges took the series opener.
Margaux Lesser and
Nicole Cicchetti had NYU's two other hits in the contest.
Kluever pitched 6.2 innings while allowing no earned runs, four hits and three walks with one strikeout.
The teams continue the series tomorrow, April 27, with a doubleheader beginning at 5:00pm on Staten Island.
