Baseball Swept by CWRU

Violets Fall 12=7 and 3-1

New York University's baseball team dropped both ends of a University Athletic Association (UAA) doubleheader against Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, April 20, at the Staten Island University Hospital Community Park in Staten Island, NY.

The Spartans won 12-7 and 3-1, as NYU moved to 21-11 overall and 8-7 in the Association.

CWRU led 4-0 after two-and-a-half innings in game one, but the Violets plated three in the bottom of the third on a three-run homer from Harrison Blueweiss

It was 5-3 entering the bottom of the sixth and NYU once again came within one after Max Oliveira walked with the bases loaded. But, the Spartans scored seven runs across the seventh and eighth to go up 12-4.

A Blueweiss sac fly and Nick Argenziano two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth had the Violets rallying, but the deficit proved to much to overcome.

Cam Dunn was 3-for-4, Blueweiss went 2-for-4 while driving in four, Argenziano notched two hits and Alex VanLandingham finished 2-for-4 as NYU recorded 12 hits in defeat.

In game two, CWRU pushed across a run in the second and two in the third before Dunn's RBI single made it 3-1 after three innings. That ended up accounting for all of the games scoring, with the game settling into a pitcher's duel the rest of the way.

NYU starter Joe Cetale went seven full innings while allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Dunn stayed hot, going 3-for-5 with a double while Connor Roggero had the Violets' other multi-hit showing (2-for-5).

The teams conclude their four-game series tomorrow, April 21, at 11:00am on Staten Island.
