The New York University women's tennis team defeated William Smith College 8-1 on Saturday, April 13, at the HWS Tennis Center in Geneva, NY.
The Violets had a dominant start to the match as they secured a 2-1 lead in doubles.
Isabella Hartman and
Jimena Menendez won their #1 contest 8-1, and
Margaret Piatos and
Kendall Kamerschen won at #3 by a similar score.
The Violets lost at #2 doubles, but didn't lose another match for the rest of the afternoon.
Menendez and Hartman each dominated in their matches, triumphing 6-0, 6-2 at #1 and 6-2, 6-0 at #2, respectively.
Aditi Narayan and Kamerschen were victorious in their matches. Narayan had a 6-3, 6-3 win in the #3 match and Kamerschen posted a 6-3, 6-0 triumph in her #4 match-up.
Piatos and
Glenda Boeker each recorded their first collegiate singles victories. Piatos came out on top 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 in her #5 singles match, while Boeker bested her opponent 8-6 at #6.
"Some people got their first taste of collegiate competition, and I thought everyone was able to step up and perform very well," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "Maybe a shout-out to Glenda and Margaret for recording their first collegiate singles victories."
The Violets will return to the courts tomorrow, Sunday, April 14, as they face off against the University of Rochester at 10:00am.
