Men's Volleyball Defeats Kean

Violets Sweep at Home

The New York University men's volleyball team (7-5) swept Kean University (10-9) in straight sets on Wednesday, March 6, at the John A. Paulson Center. 
 
NYU increased its streak to four wins in a row by beating Kean 25-20, 25-15, 25-22.
 
The Violets took the lead early in the first set, opening a four-point gap at 8-4. Kean fought back to an 11-11 tie, but the Cougars committed two more errors to restore the Violets' lead.
 
The Cougars staged a comeback, taking the lead for the first time in the set at 16-14. With the score tied 17-17, the Violets went on a three-point streak that featured a Ry Kagan and Luke Boyer kill and they took the lead for good.
 
Down the stretch, an Emerson Evans kill and service ace gave NYU the winning points.
 
Both teams traded points in the second set until the Violets came to life with three in a row, highlighted by two Evans' service aces to take the lead 14-11. The Cougars scored another before the Violets went on another four-point run.
 
NYU looked comfortable, widening the gap to 22-14. Jake Upham aced the Cougars twice through serves, giving NYU the second set.
 
NYU broke a 6-6 tie in the third set with three consecutive points to take the lead for good. The gap widened to as many as five points.
 
However, Kean scored three in a row to make it 22-20, threatening a comeback. But NYU took the set and the game through another Cougar error and kills from Jerry Feng and Robert Allen
 
Evans led the match in kills with 10, while Kagan and Lucas Osiecki followed with eight and six, respectively. Evans also led the match with two aces. 
 
Devyn Nguyen's 34 assists and libero Zach Knudsen's 13 digs were match-highs.
 
The Violets are on the road again against Elmira College on Saturday, March 9, at 2 pm..
