The New York University women's volleyball team (18-10 ) beat Eastern University in four sets on Friday night, November 1, in St. Davids, PA.
The Violets were tested throughout and came away with the hard-fought victory 25-21, 26-24, 27-29, 25-20.
Eastern started strong in the first set leading 6-0. The Violets responded with a kill from
Grace Nelson assisted by
Ava Launsbach, then pulled ahead to tie it up at 8-8. The Violets took the lead and
Chloe Lemons closed the first set with a kill assisted by
Alden Roberts.
In the second set, both teams were neck and neck throughout. At 23-24, NYU strung together three kills from Nelson,
Chloe Hynes, and Roberts to put them up two sets to none.
The Eagles extended the match with an extra-long third-set win.
The final set saw strong defense from NYU. The Violets recorded three blocks at the net with
Taylor Odum earning her sixth block of the match. Roberts served two aces to close out the match.
"I think the team did a really good job staying focused and disciplined throughout the game, especially in the fourth set with the game on the line," Nelson said."
Nelson and Hynes led the team in kills with 15 and 11, respectively. Odum recorded six blocks and Launsbach totaled 26 assists. Libero
Yooni Park put up a strong defensive performance recording 30 digs against the Eagles.
"Tonight's road match showed how close we are as a team," said Head Coach
Andrew Brown. "We were able to go against a tough team and play with confidence in ourselves and our teammates."
NYU is back on the road on Wednesday, November 6, to play at Hunter College at 7:00 pm.
