Women's Soccer Ties in First UAA Match

Violets Play 1-1 Draw at Case Western Reserve

The #16-ranked New York University women's soccer team continued its unbeaten season, finishing a 1-1 draw with #12-ranked Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, October 5, in Cleveland, OH. This was the University Athletic Association (UAA) opener for both squads.

The first score of the match was a Kelli Keady net at 55:31 which marked her 25th career goal as a Violet. She was assisted by Rena Kalargiros

The Spartans responded with a goal near the low left post at 77:21. Neither team was able to find the back of the net again, as the score remained 1-1 at the final whistle.

The game was nearly won by the Spartans' Alexis Sassover, who had a breakaway shot on goal at 89:49, but was thwarted by Riley Felsher's game-saving reject

The Violets had 13 shots to the Spartans' seven.  NYU also had the advantage in corner kicks 4-0.

Kalargiros had a team-leading four shots for the Violets, while Felsher notched three saves.

The Violets and the Spartans are both 7-0-4 this season.

The Violets are back on the pitch next Saturday, October 12, when they return to face the University of Chicago in Newark, NJ, at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Game time is set for 6:00pm.
