Women's Volleyball Competes at UAA Round Robin #3

Violets Defeat Rochester, Fall to Emory

The New York University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #3 on Sunday, October 27, in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Violets opened the day with a four-set victory over the University of Rochester (25-16, 15-25, 25-21, 25-21), then completed action with a three-set loss to Emory University (25-21, 25-16, 25-21).

After splitting the first two sets of the opener, the Violets never trailed in the third. The score was tied 5-5 when NYU tallied the next four points and led the rest of the way. 

The Yellowjackets took a 9-5 lead in the final set, but the Violets used a 6-0 run to go in front. The score was then knotted at 15-15 when NYU scored five of the next six points to take a lead it would never relinquish.  

Three Violets recorded double-digit kills in the match: Grace Nelson (13), Chloe Lemons (11), and Chloe Hynes (10). 

There were double-digit leader in assists, as well: Ava Launsbach (27) and Dominique Drust (12). Drust added nine digs, while Felicia Wu contributed a team-high 13.  

Facing #5-ranked Emory, the Violets stayed within reach, but could not push ahead and pull off the upset.

In the opening set, the Violets trailed by as many as five, but pulled even at 15-15 and then again at 21-21, before the Eagles ran off the final four points.

Emory dominated the second set, scoring the first four points and never trailing.

In the final set, the Violets opened up its biggest lead of the afternoon, 18-15. However, the Eagles scored the next seven points en route to the victory.

Jessica Spierenburg had a team-high eight kills for NYU. Nelson and Taylor Odum each had six. Launsbach led with 13 assists, while Yoonie Park had a team-high 15 digs. 
 
 
The Violets return to action on Friday, November 1, at 6:00pm when they travel to St. Davids, PA, to face Eastern University.
