The New York University women's volleyball team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday, October 19, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
Three NYU players,
Yooni Park,
Taylor Odum and
Dominique Drust, were all honored along with their families on Senior Day prior to the second match vs. Stockton University.
In their first match,
the #22-ranked Violets defeated the University of Mount Saint Vincent in straight sets (25-15, 25-15, 25-12), then swept Stockton 25-17, 25-18, 25-17.
The Violets had little trouble with the Dolphins in the opening match, never trailing in any of the three sets.
In the first set, NYU broke a 7-7 tie with seven straight points en route to the 10-point victory.
The Violets rushed out to a 9-1 lead in the second set and went ahead by as many as 11 points before
Reilly Goueth's kill ended the frame.
The final set was even more lopsided as NYU scored the final five points to establish its biggest lead of the match.
"It was good to get the win after a tough loss last night," said Head Coach
Andrew Brown, referring to Friday night's 3-1 loss to Salisbury University. "This match gave us a chance to get more people involved and there were a ot of contributors."
Goueth,
Catherine Maffei and
Sarah Lattan each had a team-high six kills for the Violets. Drust (13) and
Alden Roberts (12) each had double-digit assists, while
Felicia Wu recorded seven aces and Park led with nine digs.
Against Stockton, the Violets fell behind 4-0 in the first set before coming back to take the lead at 8-7 and never trailing again.
The second set was tied 16-16 when a 6-0 rally put NYU firmly in control.
The final set was knotted 13-13 before a 4-0 NYU run put the hosts up for good.
Chloe Hynes led the way with 10 kills and
Grace Nelson added nine. Drust and
Ava Launsbach each contributed 13 assists, while Park again led the way with 12 digs.
Wu added another three aces.
"Out team did a really good job supporting our seniors on a special day both on and off the court," Brown added. "We had great production from Taylor in the middle, Domi leading with assists and defense, and Yooni's strong serve/receive and defense."
The Violets will return to the Paulson Center for their final home match of the season this Wednesday, October 23, vs. Grinell College at 7:00pm.
