The New York University men's soccer team played its first University Athletic Association (UAA) game of the 2023 season, falling to Case Western Reserve University 3-0 on Saturday, September 30, at home in Newark, NJ.
All three goals were recorded in the first half as the Spartans put this one away early.
Brandon Kim opened the scoring just 17:37 into the contest, gathering the ball within a cluster of players and sending it into the net.
Josh Cook followed by scoring the first of his two goals less than five minutes later (21:58). He was able to connect off of Camden Larson's corner kick to double the Spartans' lead.
Cook's second goal was scored at 34:54, again off a corner kick this time from Alex Lippiatt.
That was all of the scoring on the day.
NYU's
Jackson McCloskey was inserted in goal to begin the second half and recorded three saves in his collegiate debut to keep Case Western Reserve scoreless over the final 45 minutes.
Case Western Reserve's Bradley Winter recorded the shutout by making three saves.
The Spartans had the advantage in shots (16-5) and shots on goal (10-3).
The Violets return to the pitch for their final non-conference game when they host Kean University at 6:00pm on Tuesday, October 3, in Newark, NJ.
