The New York University softball team was defeated 10-2 by host Brandeis University in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest on Sunday, April 16, in Waltham, MA.
The Violets, who have lost five straight games, did take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on RBI singles from
Samantha Burggraf and
Chloe Blanc.
However, Brandeis erupted for three runs in the bottom of the frame and held NYU scoreless the rest of the way.
The Violets used four pitchers in the contest, with starter
Jessie Werthman suffering the defeat.
The Judges out-hit the Violets 8-4.
Caroline Hofmann and
Lily Candelaria also had hits for NYU, while Candelaria was also hit by a pitch in her other at-bat.
The Violets return to action next weekend when they host a four-game UAA series against Case Western Reserve University. The first game is set for Friday, April 21, at 3:00pm at the College of Staten Island.
