Violets Drop a Pair to Case Western

The New York University softball team dropped a pair of games to Case Western Reserve University on Friday, April 21, at the College of Staten Island.

The host Violets were shutout in both games, falling 5-0 and 2-0 to the Spartans.

Marina Egbert went the distance for NYU in the opener.  She struck out six batters and only allowed three earned runs, but NYU could not muster any offense. The Violets were held to three hits by Lexi Miskey, two of them by Samantha Burggraf. Hannah Becker had the other hit for NYU.

Angelina Biele pitched game two for NYU and was masterful. She only gave up five hits, but did not get any run support.

Case scored single runs in the third and the fourth innings, and that was enough for their starter, Kylie Hosey.

The Violets outhit the Spartans 6-5 in the contest, but again could not plate any runs. Sophia Leon had a pair of hits, while Burgraff contributed a double and a walk.

Becker, Lily Candelaria and Olivia de Hasselle had the other hits for NYU.

The two teams return to the diamond on Saturday for another University Athletic Association (UAA) doubleheader. First pitch on Senior Day is scheduled for 11:00 am.
