Women's Tennis Streak Ends

Violets Lose 7-2 in Massachusetts

The New York University women's tennis team had its perfect 8-0 record blemished due to a 7-2 loss at Babson College on Saturday, April 15, in Babson Park, MA.

It was a difficult day for the Violets, but the team's grit that has served them so well this season was ever-present on the court. In the doubles round, the No. 2 team of Karina Jensrud/Molly Heber refused to give up a sweep as they defeated their opponents 8-6 in a fierce contest.

In the singles round, the Violets continued to struggle to find wins. However, NYU once again proved it wouldn't go down without a fight as Jimena Menendez took down her opponent in comeback fashion to win the No. 4 match 6-7, 6-2, 6-3.

"It was a tough loss to a very good team," commented Head Coach Horace Choy. "We got off to slow start as we adjusted to playing outdoors for the first time. The women fought hard, but were unable to get out of the early deficits. We have a quick turnaround tomorrow, but it is an opportunity for the women to bounce back and get on the winning track."

The Violets return to the court on Sunday to face Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA, at 11:00am.
