The New York University softball team was swept by host Brandeis University on Saturday, April 15, in Waltham, MA.
The Violets dropped the first game 6-2 and the second 7-3.
The Judges took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning of the opener and never gave it back.
Madi Hand homered for the Violets in the top of the third to cut NYU's deficit in half.
After Brandeis plated another run in the bottom of the fifth, the Violets again cut their deficit to one run in the the top of the sixth on
Marina Egbert's RBI single.
However, the Judges added three runs in the bottom of the frame to put the game out of reach.
Emily Stone started the game for NYU and went the distance.
Margaux Lesser and
Lily Candelaria had the only other two hits for the Violets in the contest.
NYU opened the scoring in the second game on
Samantha Burggraf's two-run single in the top of the first.
However, the Judges answered with two runs in the second and third to reclaim the lead.
Chloe Blanc's RBI single brought the Violets within one in the top of the fifth, but Brandeis answered with two more in the bottom of the frame and one more in the sixth to close out the scoring.
Burgraff finished with a pair of hits, while starter
Angelina Biele took the loss.
NYU has now lost four straight.
The fourth and final game of this University Athletic Association (UAA) series will take place on Sunday. First pitch is set for 11:00am.
