The New York University men's tennis team was defeated by the Stevens Institute of Technology 6-3 on Friday, April 14, in Hoboken, NJ. The Violets now stand with a record of 6-5.
NYU began the match with two nail-biting contests in the doubles round. Alexander Lee and Boren Zheng held their opponents to a tiebreaker in the #2 match, eventually losing 8-7 (4). However, posting a tight victory at #3 doubles was the team of Joseph He and Andy Watterson outlasting the Ducks 8-7 (3).
Continuing into the singles round, the Violets scraped two wins out of six matches. In another tight bout, He earned his second victory of the day by defeating Stevens' Max-William Kanz 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (6). Zheng also earned a win, taking the #2 singles matchup 6-4, 6-3.
"Ours guys showed a great fight and competed their tails off," commented Assistant Coach Chanmeet Singh Narang. "I'm proud of how they showed up together as a team today. Unfortunately the result didn't fall our way, but they're continuing to take steps in the right direction. I look forward to getting back to work tomorrow versus Babson."
The Violets will return to the court on Saturday, April 15, when they travel to Babson College in Babson Park, MA. Serves are set to begin at 11:30am.
